Mardi Himal and Natural Hot Spring Trek also called Mardi Himal Trek is a short trek in a relatively new trekking trail in Annapurna Region, which is still less visited by trekkers and is unspoiled. As the trail sees less Trekkers, it has teahouses with minimum essential facilities. It is an easy trek that goes to the maximum altitude of 4,250 meters. In this trek we walk past small villages, valleys, terraced farms, Rhododendron forests, rivers  and off course the amazing views of the Annapurna, Machhapuchre (Fishtail) and Hiunchuli mountains. On our way down we will have a relaxing healing bath in a natural hot water spring.

Detail Itinerary

Day 1: Arrive Kathmandu (1,300 meters)

On arrival at Tribhuwan International Airport, a representative from Eve Holidays will greet you at the airport and escort you to your hotel. You’ll have rest of the day at leisure.

Day 2: Drive to Pokhara

We leave early and drive westwards to Pokhara. This town is set in a beautiful valley and is overlooked by Machhapuchhare, one of the most distinctive of the Himalayan peaks.

Day 3: Drive to Phedi and trek to Deurali (2100m/6,720ft): 40 minutes drive, 4-5 hours trek

After breakfast we drive for around 40 minutes to Phedi on Pokhara Baglung Highway. We walk on stone steps, terraced fields, forests and villages to Dhampus. The settlement of lodges seen on the way is known as Australian Camp. We continue our walk to Deurali which is a small village beautifully located on a ridge with good views of the Annapurna South, Mardi Himal and Macchhapuchhare.

Day 4: Trek from Deurali to Forest Camp (2,520m/8064ft): 6-7 hours

We have breakfast in the teahouse and head off to the quiet trail untill we reach Forest Camp. Since this is a new trekking destination, we need to carry sufficient water. The day’s walk in the rhododendron forest is beautiful with gradual uphill.

Day 5: Trek from Forest Camp to Low Camp (2970m/9504ft): 5-6 hours

Today we walk through dense forests to reach Low Camp. The low camp has couple of tea houses in the clearing of the forest. The view of Mt. Machapuchhre (Mt. Fishtail) and Mardi Himal looks much closer now.

Day 6: Trek from Low Camp to High Camp (3540m/11,328ft): 3-4 hours

Today we trek uphill alongside a ridge.On the way we will pass through Badal Danda (Cloud Hill). From High Camp the mountain views of Machhapuchhre and Mardi Himal are stunning and we feel like you can touch them.

Day 7: High camp to upper viewpoint (4250m/13600ft), return back to high camp: 2-3 hours

Today we start early after breakfast in the Lodge. To reach the upper viewpoint we ascend and descend, and sometimes on a steep rocky trail. From here we see the close view of Mardi Himal (5587m), Annapurna I (8091m), Annapurna south (7219m), Hiunchuli (6441m), Baraha Shikhar (Mt. Fang) (7647m), Tent Peak (5695m), Singhachuli (6501m), Machapuchhre (6993m) and others. We trek back to the High Camp for overnight stay.

Day 8: Trek back to Forest Camp (4 hrs)

Today we have our breakfast in the Lodge and walk down to Forest Camp.

Day 9: Trek to Natural Hot Spring

After breakfast we walk past Rhododendron forest and Gurung Villages with fluttering flags to reach Natural Hot Spring for the healing bath.

Day 10: Trek to Nayapul; drive to Pokhara (5 hours walk)

Today on our final day of trekking we first descend to the Kimrong Khola which we cross and then tackle a short ascent. Descending further we follow the Modi River until we reach Nayapul where we meet our car with driver and make the short drive  to hotel in Lakeside, Pokhara where you can take hot shower and relax in the hotel or stroll around at lakeside or enjoy boat ride in Phewa Lake.

Day 11: Drive to Kathmandu or Flight on Request

After breakfastt we have a 7 hours scenic drive to Kathmandu. 7 hours drive can be changed to 25 minutes flight on request.

We spend our last evening in Kathmandu in a farewell dinner together sharing photos recalling the excitements of trip and exchanging emails in one of the traditional Nepalese restaurant.

Day 12: Airport Transfer at your flight time

Today after breakfast you are in leisure on your own. You will be escorted to airport for your flight home at your flight time.

Accommodation during Mardi Himal Trek

In Kathmandu and Pokhara, you will stay in 4 Star Hotels with breakfast included. Along the trekking routes, you stay in teahouses/lodges that generally provide basic clean facilities with a mattress and a quilt or blanket. Accommodation are on a twin sharing basis. The accommodation in lodges in trekking routes can be single and double rooms, or a dormitory. The toilets in tea houses provide essential and basic facilities and are always outside the room. Single supplement will be provided on request and will cost an additional and depend upon availability. Although single rooms are readily available in Kathmandu/Pokhara and the trekking regions at lower elevation, it might be difficult to find them at higher elevations. Hotels in Kathmandu/Pokhara can be upgraded to 5 star in an additional cost.

Food during Mardi Himal and Natural Hot Spring Trek

In Kathmandu/Pokhara breakfast, welcome dinner and farewell dinner are provided. While on trekking, we provide breakfast, lunch and dinner. Usually, each day dinner and breakfast will be at  teahouses/lodges where you will stay and lunch will be on the way. We make it sure that the food is hygienic and at the same time suits your palate. Foods cooked in lodges and guesthouses on the way are pasta, tuna bakes, noodles, potatoes, eggs, daal bhat (rice and lentils), bread, soup, fresh vegetables (variety depends on the season) and even some desserts like apple pies, pancakes, and some interesting attempts at custard. You will find a lot of garlic on the menu because it assists with acclimatization. In many larger villages you may find some meat items on the menu. You can always find hot chocolate, tea, and hot lemon drinks, as well as soft drinks, and treats like chocolate and crisps.

The spring time from March to May and the Autumn months from September to November is considered the best months for Mardi Himal and Natural Hot Spring Trek.

Experience Required for Mardi Himal and Natural Hot Spring Trek

Anyone who is fit and healthy and have a habit of walking for few of hours a day can do this trek. However walking in higher altitudes is more physically demanding than walking in lower altitudes. Exercising and jogging regularly for some weeks prior to the trip is a good idea to enhance your stamina. Participants with pre-existing medical conditions such as heart, lungs and blood diseases are required to consult their doctor before taking the trip. It is also advised that you inform Eve Holidays about the medical condition before booking the trek.

Acclimatization during Mardi Himal and Natural Hot Spring Trek

All of Eve Holidays trekking itineraries are planned keeping in mind the risk of Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS). Going up at higher altitude too fast causes a medical condition called AMS which is serious enough to kill if neglected. We are well aware that it is essential to allow you sufficient time for acclimatization to minimize the risk. However it is important to remember that some people are more vulnerable than others. So we suggest to avoid alcohol and drink enough water and get good night sleep during the trek.
