Weather you are entering Tibet from Mainland China or from Kathmandu, either overland or via a flight, every single foreign traveler needs two distinct documents. One cannot substitute for the other.
You need two separate documents: Tibet Travel Permit (TTP), Alien Permit, Millitary clearance and a special Chinese Group Visa issued in Kathmandu. Your regular individual Chinese visa is not valid when entering Tibet from Nepal.
Key Travel Documents for Mount Kailash Tour
Travelers are not allowed to travel or apply these documents on your own. These documents are issued only through a registered travel agency in Nepal. These documents are checked at several checkpoints while entering Tibet and during the trip. Eve Holidays handles this for you.
Tibet Travel Permit (TTP): Issued by the Tibet Tourism Bureau from Lhasa. It is the foundational permit required for any foreign national to enter the Tibet Autonomous Region.
Additional Permits: Traveling specifically to Mount Kailash also requires supplementary documents like an Alien Travel Permit and military/border clearances, which are obtained after entering Tibet during the trip.
Chinese Group Visa: Issued as a separate physical sheet of paper (not a sticker in your passport) by the Chinese Embassy in Kathmandu. It lists all members of your tour group and requires you to enter and exit together.

You will have to email us your clear, high-resolution digital scans of your passport information page. Passports must have at least 6 months of remaining validity from your trip date.
Step 2: Obtain the Invitation Letter and TTP
We apply to the Tibet Tourism Bureau (TTB) for your Tibet Travel Permit (TTP), alongside the mandatory Alien Travel Permit and Military/Border Clearances required specifically for the restricted Mount Kailash region. This takes 25 to 30 days and sometimes even more. Once approved, the TTB issues an official Visa Invitation Letter containing a Group Visa number and sends digital copies.
Step 3: Complete Online COVA Forms
Once the permit is approved, an official Visa Invitation Letter is generated. Eve Holidays uses this invitation to fill out individual China Online Visa Applications (COVA) for each traveler in the group.
Step 4: Upload the Digital Requirements
For each client, we digitally upload:
A compliant passport-style photo (48mm x 33mm, white background, no glasses, no smiling).
The digital scan of your passport photo page.
The digital copy of the Visa Invitation Letter / TTP received from TTB
Step 5: Submit for Digital Pre-Review
We submit the complete visa forms online. The visa center will pre-screen your application. This process takes 3 to 5 working days. Once the “Online review completed”, we print out the resulting confirmation certificates.
Step 6: Gather Physical Documents from Clients
As soon as you land in Kathmandu, we collect:
Original physical passports.
Two physical passport photos (matching the digital uploads exactly).
Step 7: In-Person Submission at CVASC
Take all physical passports, photos, the original printed TTP/Invitation letters, and your printed COVA confirmation certificates to the visa center.

Step 8: Pay Service Fees and Collect the Group Sheet
Pay the standard CVASC service fees (and embassy express fees if expediting).
Regular service: 4 working days.
Express options: 2 to 3 working days.
